Frederick J. "Monte" Monteagle account of the destruction of the redwood forest above Oakland 1853-55
Frederick J. "Monte" Monteagle wrote a thirty-part series of articles for the Martinez News-Gazette, between January and February, 1977, about the logging and destruction of the redwood groves in the Oakland and Contra Costa hills during the years 1853-55. I've transcribed and researched them. I'll publish each installment one as an individual blog post. They tell good stories about a sad event. - MF
