COLORED CYCLERS.
They Will Hold a Meet Tuesday at the Garden City Track.
SAN JOSE. Cal., Sept. 15. - The San Jose Colored Cyclers will hold a race meet at the Garden City Cyclers' track Tuesday afternoon, September 17. There will be a parade of the colored cyclers on the arrival of an excursion from San Francisco. The entries are numerous and nearly all the leading colored riders on the coast have entered. The events will be: One mile, novice; two-thirds mile, handicap, class A; one mile, scratch, class B; one mile, scratch, class A: two-mile handicap, class B ; one mile, handicap, fat men's race.
SAN JOSE, September 17. - The San Jose Cyclers, the colored organization, held its initial meet at the Garden City Cyclers' track this afternoon. A large crowd of contestants from various parts of the State and Colorado was expected, but few came. The attendance was small, but the sport was sufficiently exciting to interest the spectators to the end.
The San Jose colored cyclers are so pleased with the success of their meet Tuesday that arrangements have been made for another meet on Sunday, September 29. The club has it membership of about fifty. A great many colored crackerjacks from different parts of the State have signified their intention of riding on the 29th.
SAN JOSE, CAL., Sept. 29. - The race meet of the San Jose Colored Cyclers this afternoon proved an interesting event.There was not a very large attendance, but the races were all hotly contested. The feature of the meet was the ladies' mile race, which was won by Miss Rebecca Downs in 2:59, lowering the world's record, formerly held by Miss Idella Allen of Oakland 1-5 of a second. Miss Allen feil from her wheel in a faint after crossing the finishing line.
