EARLY SALE SEEN FOR OAKMORE HIGHLANDS TRACT

Scenic Subdivisions of Leimert Co. to Have Excellent Transportation.

An ancient road across which the early Oakland pioneers hauled redwood logs to construct early Oakland, winds along the slopes of Oakmore Highlands, the new Walter H. Leimert Company residential development shortly to be placed on the market.

Along this road, still in a good state of preservation, are found clumps of young redwood trees - trees from 20 to 40 years old, all in the Oakmore Highlands park.

Engineers in subdividing Oakmore Highlands are preserving, as far as possible, the delightful meandering of the ancient road in and out of oak and redwood, buckeye and bay trees.

Leimert Blvd, from Monterey to the bridge is green, on this 1897 USGS map. Roads, from left; Park, Fruitvale, Lincoln. There was no trace of the "ancient road" in Oakmore on the USGS maps. I bet they're right, though.

[I am assuming the "ancient road" they're talking about is Leimert Blvd, and possibly also Lyman Road. This is meaningful for me, because I often commute home on Leimert Boulevard, on my bicycle. If you know more about this "ancient road", please tell me. - MF]

This 1925 Thomas / Lyons map pre-dates the Oakmore development. Lyman existed, but the Leimert / Oakmore tract is blank.

"Oakmore Highlands will shortly be the terminus for the Park boulevard carline which will be extended across the concrete and steel bridge across Dimond Canyon," states Harry E. Leimert, Leimert Company, owners and developers of this new residential park. He added:

"Meanwhile final cleanup of remaining homesites in Lakeshore Highlands is under way. With this residential tract out of the way the Leimert Company will turn its entire energy into Oakmore Highlands where the advance demand for homesites is already quite heavy."
