Old Rockville - Oakland Tribune, 06 Jan 1946, Sun, Page 17

'Old Rockville'

Recently John W. Winkley visited the site of this "old Rockville" in order to get some pictures of an old stone church there. He found many other things of historic interest connected with the place. Rockville, he tells us lies about five miles west of Fairfield, and about that distance northeast of Cordelia. It stood in pioneer days on the old stage road between Benicia and Sacramento.

THE GLORY OF THE HILLS. - Hike to Redwood Peak - Alameda Daily Argus, 03 Sep 1904, Sat, Page 3

"THE GLORY OF THE HILLS."

NATURE'S VARIED WONDERS BUT A SHORT JOURNEY AFOOT FROM ALAMEDA

Almost At Our Doors Are Picturesque Hills and Peaks, With Fern Grown Canyons Between.

A prominent peak in any range of hills or mountains commands attention the world over; and it is therefore not a matter of wonderment that the nearest and highest eminence to one's habitation should possess a power of attraction practically predominant.

I saw this postcard on Ebay, postmarked October 21, 1907 and probably shot within the few years beforehand:

"THE Shame of the Yuba" has long passed into history. Yet for seventy years it has been the subject of more conflicting opinion and more diverse views than any other incident in California annals.

A WILD RIDE.

Charles Ayers Nearly killed by a Cow's Tail.

Charles Ayers and John E. Morris had an experience last Sunday that they will long remember. They are the owners of two fine wheels and they went for a ride in the country. They had heard of the coasting from Redwood Peak and they thought that they would have a spin.
